Why is a mirrorless camera preferable for concert and theatre shoots?
It’s the EVF!

The so called “what you see what you get” terminology that is perfect for event photoshoot. I have been shooting indoor events for two years. The dramatic changing of the stage lightings has posed a problem in white balance. Sometime, you can rely on the camera Auto-WB, but the success rates are low, almost 70% of the shots were wrong.
When using the EVF, I was able to see the light changes and tune the preset kelvin accordingly via a custom button, whereas, using an OVF, it is difficult to detect that, you won’t notice it frequently. Only when you chimp at your camera. Capturing thousands of photos with the correct white balance at the first place would save you a vast amount of time in editing.
AF System - cameras with hybrid AF systems were beneficial to event shooters. I mainly shoot stills. The phase detect is fast and good for subject-tracking, it can be found in most DSLRs, but contrast detect is far more accurate than phase detect, especially in lowlight, but slow, therefore having both act together makes it possible for shooting fast moving subjects indoors. Indoor concerts and theatre’s lighting are worse than indoor sports.
The hit rate, up to 80% useable shots all the time. My claim on this could be subjective to you. As different brands of cameras act differently than others. There are no definite numbers to suggest which setup is the best. I used to own a DSLR system back in my country while doing wedding events. Only when you use it in the real world.
I would hope for a better system like an AI that can detect and adapt by learning the environment’s colour palette and patterns to the camera memory, and can be quickly recalled automatically in the camera, in the coming future.
